Part-time Secretary Needed!
Evangelical United Church of Christ is looking for a part-time secretary.
Position: Church Secretary
Hours: Part-Time, 20 Hours per Week
Reports To: Church Council via the Pastor
The Church Secretary provides administrative support to the pastor, church leadership and congregation. This role requires excellent organizational skills, professionalism and a friendly demeanor to manage the daily operations of the church office, including overseeing the church’s online presence and Sunday service preparations.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative Support

Answer phone calls, emails and in-person inquiries, ensuring a welcoming environment.

Maintain church calendars, including worship schedules, meetings and special events.

Prepare and distribute church bulletins, newsletters and other communications.

Create and update documents, including membership records, meeting minutes and reports.
Website and Social Media Management

Maintain and update the church website with current information, events and resources.

Create and manage social media posts to engage with the congregation and the wider community.

Respond to comments and messages on social media in a timely and professional manner.
Sunday Service Preparation

Prepare and organize slides for Sunday services, including worship lyrics, announcements and children’s sermon notes.

Coordinate with the pastor, worship team and audiovisual volunteers to ensure accuracy and readiness.
Office Management

Maintain an organized and functional church office.

Order and manage office supplies.

Coordinate building use and scheduling for church activities and community events.
Communication

Serve as the first point of contact for visitors, members and external inquiries.

Distribute prayer requests and church announcements as needed.
Financial Assistance

Assist the treasurer or finance team with record-keeping, including tracking donations and expenses.

Prepare deposits and maintain accurate financial documentation.
Other Duties

Coordinate with volunteers for church events and ministries.

Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive church and member information.

Support the pastor and leadership with additional tasks as needed.

Regularly scheduled staff meetings with the pastor.
Qualifications

Proficient in office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Canva).

Experience with website management tools (e.g., WordPress, Wix) and social media platforms.

Familiarity with presentation software (e.g., PowerPoint, ProPresenter) for preparing slides.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to multitask and manage time effectively.

Friendly, professional demeanor and a commitment to supporting the mission of the church.

Experience in an administrative or similar role preferred.
Work Environment

The position requires working onsite in the church office, with occasional flexibility for remote tasks.
